Programs for Maywood, Illinois
For the first time working with a budget
After working many years helping the poorest families in the Village of Maywood, the Mayor of the town approached Jackie Bosby with a full time job. The person that was in that position "Ms. June" was getting ready to retire. The Mayor had less than 2 years left before the next election and wanted her to continue to help the community as part of his team.
The only problem was there had never been a budget to do anything. The position was Community Relations Director, which was direct services to the community. "Ms. June never needed a budget because all she was hired for was writting utility checks and interpeting for the spanish speaking families about their utlities. The funding for the ultility checks came from Salvation Army.
For Bosby this was an opportunity to help the entire community even if it was for a short time. Therefore, she reajusted her salary to use half in order to make changes and fund programs for the community.
